Program Notes:
Into the Tempest contains a slow-fast structure in which the opening is a slow and lyrical introduction, which leads directly into the bulk of the movement; fast and sometimes frenetic music, again beginning from almost nothing, and building to music filled with rhythmic vitality. Wind writing in close canon and the use of percussion to create "waves" of sound is prevalent throughout the work.
