Relativity Variations (1991) for piano solo

Instrumentation:  piano solo

Duration: 9 minutes

Movements: in one movement

Program Notes:

This work is a traditional theme and variations, with the theme being more gestural in nature, followed by a set of 6 variations. The idea of Relativity is from Einstein’s theory which states that as speed increases, time slows down. As the variations progress, the speed of the music becomes increasingly faster, while at the same time, the harmonic motion slows down.
