Program Notes:

Based upon the story of Hans Christian Andersen, Thumbelina is scored for narrator and string quartet and consists of 21 separate scenes. I also added a short Prelude and short Finale to frame the story. The outer movements are optional. The Maia Quartet, who commissioned the work, also wanted a concert piece without narrator, so I revised, combined, and developed the piece into what became my third string quartet.
